Dun Aluinn
Dun Aluinn is a design-led exclusive use hotel on an elevated site overlooking the vibrant market town of Aberfeldy and the River Tay. The property is cradled by 22 acres of private grounds with a sweeping terrace offering stunning views down the Tay Valley to one of Scotland’s most famous mountains, Schiehallion. Those panoramic views can also be enjoyed from the wood-fired, cedar hot tub, hidden away in the woods beside the house. Dun Aluinn has a rich history and was originally built as a family home in 1909. It can accommodate up to 26 guests in total and offers 13 en-suite bedrooms - the main house has 9 bedrooms and The Lodge has 4 bedrooms. The current owners have beautifully restored the house with stunning interior design and detailing.
At Dun Aluinn, the meaning of full service is redefined. You are not simply renting a house - you are immersing yourself in a fully curated experience. From the moment you book, a dedicated Guest Experience Manager begins crafting your bespoke itinerary, handling every detail of your stay and coordinating tailored activities beyond the estate. During your visit, a private butler and the Dun Aluinn team ensure seamless service at every turn.
Designed to sit in quiet harmony with its surroundings, the house is framed by ancient woodland, open moorland, and sweeping Highland views, offering a profound sense of seclusion while remaining just moments from the charming market town of Aberfeldy.

Overview
- At the heart of Dun Aluinn’s dining experience is Head Chef John Christie, whose journey has taken him from the rolling hills of Edinburgh to some of the world’s most acclaimed kitchens, including Gleneagles, Claude Bosi's two Michelin starred Hibiscus, Zermatt, the Caribbean and Australasia.
- Drawing inspiration from both his international journey and Scotland’s exceptional natural larder, Christie curates bespoke menus that celebrate seasonality, terroir, and a spirit of conviviality. Our menus are guided by the rhythm of the seasons and the unique microclimate of Perthshire. Every dish is thoughtfully created to reflect what’s naturally abundant and at its best.
- Every menu reflects the beauty and spirit of the Highlands—whether it’s an elaborate multi-course tasting journey or a relaxed feast by the fire. Seasonal dishes showcase Scotland’s finest ingredients: hand-dived scallops from the west coast, Lord of Ardbeg venison, or wild line-caught Dover sole with spiced black lentils. Autumn menus might feature barbecued quail with foie gras and rhubarb or pan-roasted grouse with caramelized pear and garden spinach, while desserts such as malted barley ice cream with sea salt caramel or port-poached fig cheesecake provide a memorable finale. At Dun Aluinn, food is more than a meal—it is an experience designed to inspire as deeply as the landscapes that surround it.
- Dun Aluinn has a full alcohol license and has an excellent selection of wines, whiskies and spirits as well as a nice cocktail list.
