About Ardbeg House

From the moment visitors arrive at Ardbeg House they are given a warm Islay welcome. Greeted by name, they are ensconced in Ardbeggian luxury and invited to enjoy drams found only on Islay each night. Every detail of the House (think hidden whisky bottles in bedrooms, and a suspended boat in the bar) has been chosen to celebrate the best of island life in Scotland. With inventive, Ardbeg-infused dishes in the restaurant – and a daily Distillery tour exclusively for House guests – all visitors are destined to become lifelong fans of Ardbeg.

Ardbeg House is nestled on the shore in the picturesque village of Port Ellen, with unsurpassed views of the ever-changing Atlantic Ocean. It is just a short hop from Ardbeg’s historic Distillery, which has clung to Islay’s rocky south coast for more than 200 years. Situated in the heart of the village, the guest house is close by to amenities, convenient for visitors travelling by sea or air, as well as offering easy access to countryside walks, boat trips and Islay’s stunning beaches for the perfect Scottish whisky getaway.

History

Opened in 2025, this boutique hotel celebrates the life and legends of Islay, the island on which Ardbeg, the world’s smokiest, peatiest Islay malt whisky, has been rooted for 200 years.

Known as the ‘Queen of the Hebrides’, Islay has an abundance of soft water, fertile soil and acres of precious peat – making it a prolific producer of distinctive, world-famous single malts, including Ardbeg.

The island is steeped in history. Celtic monks, raiding Norsemen, the Lords of the Isles and 19th-century smugglers have all played their part in Islay’s story. Its dramatic past lives in the Ardbeg brand to this day be that their whisky or guest house.

Ardbeg’s knotwork and famous ‘A’ are derived from the island’s Celtic heritage, as seen in the 8th-Century Kildalton Cross, which stands a few miles north of the Ardbeg Distillery.

Rooms & Suites

Ardbeg House offers 12 individually themed bedrooms and suites, each inspired by the island’s legends, colourful characters and untamed landscape. There are 5 House rooms, 3 Superior rooms and 4 Premium rooms, all en suite. For guests seeking more space, rooms can be made available in adjoining pairs, to create three suites.

Each bedroom’s theme is brought to life through bespoke wallpapers and specially commissioned works of art. Guests are guided through each bedroom’s story by an in-room booklet which reveals hidden drams and surprises such as a bed headboard made from a deconstructed piano, origami created from vintage Ardbeg stock dockets, aromatic artworks depicting the whisky’s scents and shelving made from whisky barrels.

Dining at Ardbeg House

Continue to explore Scotland's magical isle by tasting some of its signature flavours at the restaurant. Locally sourced, showcasing the best of the region, all dishes tell a story.

Bread made from the very same grain that is used to make the world-class whisky. Prawns and crabs fresh from the sea provided by the local seafood shack. Beef from Cornabus Farm for the nicest smoked meat.

Private dining is also available for a quintessentially Scottish dining experience on the Isle of Islay.
