Hebridean Princess – 30 Years Cheers

Now that 2018 has arrived, here at Hebridean Island Cruises we are excitedly looking forward to celebrating the 30th cruising season of Hebridean Princess. Guest speaker Graham Clarke has kindly penned a 30th anniversary poem titled “30 Year’s Cheers”.

Our 30th anniversary season will not go unmarked and therefore we will be replicating itineraries from our inaugural year of 1989, along with cruises from our tenth season of 1998 and the twentieth season of 2008:

>> Original cruise from 1989 – Islands of the Inner & Outer Hebrides 22 – 29 May 2018

>> Original cruise from 1998 – The Hebridean Isles 19 – 26 June 2018

>> Original cruise from 2008 – Secrets of the Western Isles 25 Sept – 2 Oct 2018

30 Years Cheers

A nice glass of whisky with one cube of ice
And a portion of haggis would also be nice

Such pleasures enhance this marvellous trip
On this our most excellent wee Scottish ship

So here’s to our Captain and his noble Crew
Our wonderful chefs just cooking for you

Preparers of dishes and bakers of breads
Cleaners of cabins and makers of beds

Here’s to our Purser and Chief Engineer
And blokes on the bridge who know how to steer

And men on the deck we call seamen able
And those lovely people who wait at our table

Ensuring our comfort as we sit to dine
And ever attentive at pouring the wine

This ship’s been cruising for thirty great years
A Princess deserving of three hearty cheers

So one for our Captain one for his Crew
And might I suggest the third one for you!

Graham Clarke will accompany the Isles of Scilly and Celtic Coasts cruise commencing 10th July 2018 as guest speaker.

Hebridean Princess supports marine conservation

On board Hebridean Princess we are privileged to witness some of the most unique wildlife in the British Isles. The varied landscapes and environments of The Inner & Outer Hebrides provide the perfect natural habitat for an incredible variety of wildlife species. On a Hebridean Princess cruise we have opportunities to see rare and spectacular species including golden eagles, puffins, corncrakes, otters, dolphins, whales and sharks amongst many others.

The preservation of the cruising environment in which Hebridean Princess operates, and the marine life which it supports, is of great importance to Hebridean Island cruises and that is why we have a dedicated partnership with the marine conservation charity, Sea-Changes.
Sea-Changes is a charity with a mission of raising funds for marine conservation primarily in the UK. Their vision is to create a world where seas and shores are clean and healthy, marine species are protected and where, far from damaging the oceans, those who use the sea for travel for their leisure pursuits, positively contribute to the sustainability of the marine environment.
Hebridean Island Cruises became the first UK cruise company to provide its guests with the opportunity to make a significant contribution towards marine conservation. Hebridean is committed to asking customers for a recommended donation of £20 as each booking is made. Guests are not under any obligation to make the donation, but all the donations made in this way are collected by Hebridean Island Cruises and handed to Sea-Changers.
To date Hebridean customers have donated over £8,500 to marine conservation and with the addition of Gift Aid the amount raised has now exceeded £10,000.

Ken Charleson, Chief Operating Officer of Hebridean Island Cruises said:

“The preservation of Hebridean Princess’ cruising environment and the marine life which it supports is of great importance to the company. We’re delighted to have formed this partnership in order to give our customers the opportunity to give something back to environment they enjoy aboard the Hebridean Princess.”

Hebridean Princess will take her guests on a musical adventure of the Inner Hebrides

At the end of June Hebridean Princess will take her guests on a musical adventure that explores the Inner Hebrides, combining wonderful vistas with live classical music in some of the most inspiring locations imaginable.

By local boat from Iona, guests will visit Fingal’s Cave, the inspiration for Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and will be entertained by young musicians from the Cantilena Festival on Islay.

This fascinating cruise culminates with a Champagne reception at Duart Castle hosted by Sir Lachlan MacLean, Chieftain of Clan MacLean, before another musical spectacular from the musicians of the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival.

Throughout this season on board Hebridean Princess there are other themed cruises to suit different interests such as gardens, golf, food and drink and of course our very popular ‘Footloose’ walking programmes.

Hebridean Princess visits the mysterious land of St.Kilda

The double UNESCO World Heritage site and mysterious land of St. Kilda will witness two visits from Hebridean Princess next month.  Sailing overnight, Hebridean Princess will arrive early morning to cruise between Stac Lee and Boreray with around 60,000 breeding pairs of northern gannets before circumnavigating the main island of Hirta where guests will go ashore at Village Bay.

The island archipelago of St. Kilda, the remotest part of the British Isles, lies 41 miles (66 kilometres) west of Benbecula in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides.  The Last 36 Gaelic-speaking residents of St Kilda evacuated the main island of Hirta at their own request in 1930, thereby ending some 5000 years of continuous settlement. Behind them they left a deserted village that survives today as an outdoor museum, roamed by Soay sheep. Its renowned for it’s exceptional cliffs and the sea stacs form the most important seabird breeding station in north-west Europe

Today, three organisations, The National Trust for Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and the MoD, work in partnership to further a continuing programme of conservation and research on the islands to ensure the care and protection of this World Heritage Site.

Hebridean Princess’ new look is revealed!

Here are the stunning results of Hebridean Princess’ recent interior makeover by John Dick & Son.

The brief was for each of the areas to retain its own individual character whilst complimenting the already prominent style, luxury and quality on board the ship.

Whilst keeping this in mind, it was also important to consider the practical side of the design process. It was paramount to maximise the available space in each area, whilst paying particular attention to delivering the best possible comfort for every guest. This meant that the majority of the furniture is bespoke and manufactured to specific sizes.

Watch the time lapse video of the Tiree Lounge being revealed below.

In the main lounge a truly cosy and welcoming interior has been created that provides many intimate areas for the guests, focusing around the main focal point; the original fireplace.

In the Library there is a more masculine feel, with leather, unique upholstery and dark woods having been used.
The soft tones furnishing the Look Out Lounge flow seamlessly from the colour pallette in the foyer areas creating a relaxing space to take in the stunning views.

Painted, rattan furniture brings a casual feel to the Conservatory. The natural look has been complemented by the beautifully restored teak flooring. A wonderfully calm space to take in the scenery!

News: Hebridean Princess enjoys extensive refit

We’re pleased to announce that the Tiree Lounge, the Library, the Look-Out Lounge and the Conservatory at Hebridean Princess have all been re-designed and re-furbished. Interior designers John Dick & Son have created an individual theme for each room, all linking in with an overall colour scheme, using Scottish fabrics and British made furniture.

In addition to these vast visual improvements we are also thrilled to announce that the ship’s Wi-Fi has been significantly upgraded and i-pads installed in the Library. These exciting enhancements will be revealed on the first cruise of the season next week.
