Luxury Scotland Newsletter – August 2018

It’s ‘Goodbye’ from me and
‘Hello’ from Dorothy

The big news from Luxury Scotland this month is the arrival of our new CEO – Dorothy Welsh. After 25 wonderful years at the helm of Luxury Scotland, it is time to put my feet up and enjoy the start of my retirement.

I am delighted to be handing over the reins to Dorothy who is a seasoned marketing director with many year’s experience in the UK’s luxury hotel sector including 17 years in the role of Sales & Marketing Director at Gleneagles, one of the founding partners of Connoisseurs Scotland.

Over the last 25 years I have had the most exciting job, building the original small group of Scottish luxury Hotels into a major luxury platform with over 30 luxury properties and destinations. Dorothy’s aim is to take Luxury Scotland to the next level, extending our coverage and securing our position as a major player in Scotland’s luxury accommodation market.

Thank you to our email subscribers and our partners for their enthusiasm and support over the years.

Wishing you all the very best

Jeremy Hawkings, Chief Executive,

Day trip to the Isle of Jura

When author George Orwell wrote his famous novel “1984” on Jura, as well as describing the island as an unforgettable place, he also said it was an extremely un-getatable place.  But things have changed since the 1940s!

The Jura Passenger Ferry runs from Tayvallich which is a short drive away from Crinan. and the crossing to Craighouse on Jura takes less than an hour in a covered Stormforce 11 Redbay RIB.  (NOTE: booking is essential) Once on the island you can go on a tour of the Jura Distillery and have lunch at the Jura Hotel both of which are less than 5 minutes walk from the ferry jetty or you can just stroll around enjoying the scenery.

You can find out about local wildlife at the Information and Wildlife Interpretation Centre run by the Heart of Argyll Wildlife Organisation – it is just a short drive from the Hotel or within walking distance for those who fancy stretching their legs.
