The Torridon
The Witchery

News, awards and what's on

The year may be young, but Luxury Scotland members are already staking their claim on a host of accolades. The Torridon, in particular, is at risk of overloading their trophy cabinet. Plus we share a few of the hottest events taking root in the country’s capital this spring...

The stars align for 1887 and The Torridon

The year is off to a fast and prestigious start for Scotland’s most northerly five-star hotel, with both a Michelin Star and Green Star awarded to The Torridon’s restaurant, 1887.

For the Michelin star, judges commented that chef Danny Young’s dishes ‘lived up to the setting via both creative touches and admirable restraint’. The Green Star is in recognition of outstanding commitment to a more responsible approach to gastronomy.

A first in sustainable Scottish hospitality

A month of tremendous accolades continues in Wester Ross, with The Torridon receiving their EarthCheck Silver certification – the first hotel in Scotland to receive this accolade. EarthCheck Silver recognises the long-term commitment to sustainability for which The Torridon is well known.

Incredibly, there could be yet more to come, having been named a finalist in the Hotel Magazine Environment Awards. Among the many things The Torridon is doing supremely well, leading the charge on sustainable hospitality is a standout effort.

James Thomson goes for gold

Congratulations to James Thomson, owner of two wonderful Edinburgh properties, Prestonfield and The Witchery, for being named as a finalist in the ‘Hotelier of The Year Awards’ with Hotel magazine.

Learn something new at Edinburgh Science Festival

Looking for something exciting and a little bit different to do this spring? The Edinburgh Science Festival runs from April 4th to 19th. This year's theme is Going Global: science-themed workshops, talks and exhibitions exploring how international partnerships allow us to address shared challenges and align on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Turn up the heat Beltane Fire Festival

At Calton Hill in Edinburgh, on April 30th, celebrate the imminent arrival of summer by reviving ancient Celtic traditions with vibrant, theatrical performances, fire dancing and live music at the Beltane Fire Festival. This eye-catching ritual is not to be missed.
