Welcome to the fold: Meet our latest members
As we welcome the long days and surprising heat of the Scottish summer, we’re delighted to introduce two exceptional new additions to the Luxury Scotland collection.
One is an Edinburgh icon perched above the Royal Mile. The other, a peaceful country house retreat nestled in the rolling hills of Perthshire. Different in pace and personality, both offer unforgettable ways to experience the soul of Scotland.
The Witchery
Perched at the very gates of Edinburgh Castle, The Witchery is more than a hotel – it’s an escape into another world. Created by celebrated Scottish hotelier James Thomson, this 16th-century hideaway blends Gothic grandeur with theatrical flair. Each of its nine suites is a study in indulgence: velvet-draped four-posters, roll-top baths for two, and antiques layered with history and imagination.
Step into The Armoury’s black-and-gold salon, ascend The Vestry’s private stair to turreted views, or unwind in The Library, where secret doors and book-lined walls cocoon you in storybook luxury. Suites like The Old Rectory offer sweeping vistas down the Royal Mile, while The Turret looks across the Forth to distant Fife.
Dining is equally atmospheric. The Original Dining Room and the candlelit Secret Garden serve an acclaimed all-day à la carte menu showcasing Scotland’s finest produce – think Isle of Mull langoustines, Highland venison, hand-dived scallops – alongside one of the country’s most celebrated wine lists, with over 600 bottles from around the world.
Breakfast is served exclusively to guests, either in the suite or in the wood-panelled dining room, while weekday afternoon teas add a layer of leisurely indulgence. In warmer months, the terrace invites al fresco dining or cocktails with a castle view.
With its romantic setting, opulent detail and unmatched location on Edinburgh’s most storied street, The Witchery delivers not just a place to stay, but a richly woven experience you’ll never forget.
Kinloch House
Set within 25 acres of wooded parkland just outside Blairgowrie, Kinloch House offers a quietly luxurious escape in one of Scotland’s most picturesque corners. Built in 1840 as a private home and family-run to this day, it blends warm, attentive service with timeless country charm.
From the moment you pass through the stained-glass vestibule into the oak-panelled entrance hall, you’re welcomed by the scent of woodsmoke and the soft murmur of conversation from the drawing room. Each of the 15 rooms is individually styled, with period antiques, marble bathrooms, and garden or valley views. For a touch more space, both the turreted Junior Suites and the bay-windowed Suite offer separate sitting areas – perfect for longer stays or special occasions.
Dining here is heartfelt and seasonal. Chef Steve MacCallum, now in his 16th year, creates unpretentious country house dishes with fresh, local ingredients: Perthshire venison, Angus beef, soft fruits, and in-season game. Canapés by the fire lead into a two or three-course dinner, while Sunday roasts and a well-stocked bar (including a fine selection of single malts) round out the experience.
The surrounding area brims with things to do: explore Glamis or Scone Palace, bag a local Munro, play one of several nearby championship golf courses, or simply wander the Victorian walled garden behind the house.
Kinloch House is the kind of place that rewards slowing down. Whether you’re curled up with a book in the light-filled conservatory, sipping tea on the lawn, or returning rosy-cheeked from a Highland safari, this is Scotland at its most restorative.
