Welcome to the clan: Meet Luxury Scotland’s newest members
Spring has sprung here in Scotland and as the sun peeks out from the clouds and the countryside unfurls from hibernation, we’re delighted to share two new hotels that let you experience the very best of rural Scotland: a playful lochside hideaway in the Trossachs and a stately Speyside manor steeped in whisky heritage.
What these properties share is bold design, exceptional cuisine and a profound respect for Scottish hospitality. Calendars at the ready? Let’s meet our newest members.
Tucked away at the end of a winding single-track road along the shores of Loch Voil, Monachyle Mhor is a remarkable boutique retreat that perfectly balances rustic charm with refined luxury.
Surrounded by the wild beauty of the Trossachs, the hotel occupies a 17th-century farmhouse transformed into a bold and playful luxury hotel. From its signature pink exterior to the historic-meets-contemporary design, every detail exudes character, individuality, and warmth.
Each of the seventeen rooms is uniquely styled, mixing quiet elegance with inventive flair. Think clawfoot tubs before floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed stone walls softened with rich linens, and the odd wood-burning stove crackling in the corner.
Dining is at the heart of the Monachyle Mhor experience. The restaurant’s ever-changing menu is rooted in the land – quite literally – with ingredients sourced from the hotel’s own farm and foraged from the surrounding hills by chef-owner Tom Lewis. Whether it’s breakfast by the fire or a multi-course dinner by candlelight, the food is fresh, unfussy, and full of soul.
There’s an ease to Monachyle Mohr – a sense of escape and belonging that makes guests slow down and take in the moment. The surrounding landscape invites adventure (the lochside sauna is a must after a cold plunge) and inside the hotel there’s a sense of curated calm: lounge chairs by the fire, books waiting to be opened, and staff who have perfected the art of Scottish hospitality.
For a restorative adventure in the Scottish wilderness, you can’t do any better than Monachyle Mohr.
Nestled on the banks of the River Isla in the heart of Speyside, Linn House is a meticulously restored Victorian manor. Originally built in 1870 and reimagined by Chivas Brothers, this exclusive-use retreat offers an intimate sense of 'còsagach' – the Scottish Gaelic term for snugness and comfort – brought to life through roaring fireplaces, rich mahogany interiors, and a team that treats visitors like family.
Each of the thirteen bedrooms is uniquely designed, drawing inspiration from Chivas Brothers' storied distilleries. Period furnishings, jewel-toned fabrics, and modern amenities like underfloor heating abound. In every room, guests will find a bottle of Linn House Reserve whisky, inviting guests to unwind and savour the taste of Speyside.
Every meal at Linn House is a dining experience. Think freshly sourced Scottish ingredients like Moray scallops and venison, masterfully prepared by Michelin-quality chefs and served in the elegant oak-panelled dining room.
It should come as no surprise that Linn House’s Whisky Library is both beautiful and expansive. Guests can explore a curated selection of whiskies and enjoy guided tastings. For connoisseurs and novices alike, this is an experience to treasure.
Beyond the walls, Speyside is your oyster. From the hotel’s expansive gardens to local experiences like distillery tours and foraging expeditions, each stay is destined to become a standout memory. And if the day concludes with a dram in hand by an open fire, so be it.
With its blend of historical charm, luxurious accommodations, and the perfect seclusion that comes with exclusive use rentals, Linn House embodies the authentic Scottish Highlands escape.
