The prestigeous Chester Residence in Edinburgh;s West End has made it into GQ magazine’s top 33 hotels for 2018 – despite not being a hotel. The Chester Residence, which has 23 luxury apartments, each of which take up an entire floor of their five traditional Georgian townhouses, has been listed alongside hotels such as Claridges as one of the 33 top UK hotels.

The Edinburgh property is quite unique. Unlike the majority of bedrooms in the other 32 UK hotels, each of The Chester Residence’s apartments has an expansive living room, separate bedrooms mostly with spacious en suites and fully fitted kitchens.

GQ Magazine is quoted as saying The Chester Residence: “is the pride of Edinburgh’s West End. It ups the accommodation ante with 23 luxurious Georgian townhouse apartments that combine the privacy and comfort of home (if you happen to be an affluent interior designer) with the service of a five-star hotel.”

The Owners’ Residence mews apartment is praised with “The vast VIP suite is borderline bonkers, singing a low-lit hymn to hedonism with its eight-seat Jacuzzi, bespoke Louis Vuitton furnishings and a private cinema room.”

But it is perhaps the first-floor grand apartments which “stole GQ’s heart”; described as having “parish-church proportions, remote-controlled fireplace and sweeping 12ft sash windows” and offering “a rare line in state-of-the-art cosiness, and a luxury missing from most city hotel rooms: space.”

GQ suggests that other hotels have “some catching up to do” to achieve the levels of luxury delivered by The Chester Residence.

The Chester Residence is in good company on the GQ list. Other properties include Claridges in central London once cited by actor Spencer Tracy as the place he’d rather go to than Heaven, The Mandrake in Fitzrovia described in the feature as ‘hedonistic’, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville’s Hotel Football in Manchester and Regency-detailed The Lanesborough.

Graham Wood, owner of The Chester Residence says of the accolade, “At The Chester Residence our guests have the luxury of space and privacy in the west end of Edinburgh only a short walk from the centre of the city. It’s gratifying that our offering ranks alongside such iconic names in the hospitality sector as Claridges, Cliveden and The Lanesborough as well as the newer edgy entrants like The Mondrian and Soho Farmhouse.”
