At Pool House you are on the doorstep of Europe’s last great wilderness. As well as an abundance of wild life including Minke whales, dolphins, porpoise and seals, there is wonderful bird life and unique local flora in this part of Scotland.
Close by there are fabulous gardens including Inverewe Garden, magnificent scenery, windswept beaches, glacial gorges and plunging waterfalls. |
For those guests inclined to sit back and enjoy the ambience and vantage points of Pool House, there is history to be discovered within the walls of this 300 year old house. During Victorian times it was used as a courthouse and was a former home of Osgood Mackenzie, founder of the world famous Inverewe Garden.
The Rowallan Room is named in memory of Lord Rowallan and his Highland Fieldcraft Training Centre that was stationed in this house during the Second World War.
The purpose of the centre was to prepare army officers for service on the front line through rigorous training in hazardous terrain, during the depths of winter. Photographs of their activities and other wartime memorabilia line the walls.
“History, romance and magnificent scenery all in one romantic location!” |
