The five-star G&V Royal Mile Edinburgh Hotel is pleased to announce a new offering to get children excited about exploring Edinburgh city with their parents. A new children’s book designed especially for G&V will see children following its characters, George and Victoria, around Edinburgh to try and find their \beloved pet dog Pippin.
Upon arrival at G&V Royal Mile families will be given a special book called ‘Have you seen Pippin…?.’ The book will take families on an exciting adventure around the beautiful Capital city, allowing them to explore the city’s landmarks whilst discovering its history in a fun and child-friendly manner.
The adventure begins with a visit to the historic fortress, Edinburgh Castle. This landmark dominates the skyline of the city and stands at the head of the Old Town. At the castle, there are a variety of interesting exhibits including the Scottish Crown Jewels, where before entering the exhibition, children can touch replicas of the crown, sword and sceptre.
Next, families will follow George and Victoria on a trip to the award-winning, spooky attraction ‘Mary King’s Close’, located in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Here, families can join guided tours exploring Edinburgh’s deepest secret, the mysterious warren of 17th Century streets hidden beneath the city. Families will experience what life was like 400 years ago, whilst being told chilling ghost tales about the victims of these streets that were mysteriously sealed off and hidden from sight.
The following day, still unable to locate Pippin, families will climb the staircase to the top of Calton Hill, one of Edinburgh’s seven hills with panoramic views of the city. Located at the top of the hill sits Nelson’s Monument and the Scottish National Monument, a great opportunity for children to learn some history.
The last part of the adventure embraces further views with a climb to the top of an ancient volcano, Arthur’s Seat, sitting 251 metres above sea-level. On their ascent, families will pass St Margaret’s Loch which sits below iconic landmark St. Anthony’s Well and Chapel. A further climb will take families to the top of the hill, a perfect picnic spot with its 360-degree view of the city, a sight not to be missed. For families with younger children, it is possible to drive part way up the hill to make the route more manageable.
To finish off, after a few days happily exploring the city, families will retreat back to G&V to find their very own Pippin cuddly toy. Families can then dine at the award-winning, newly refurbished, Italian restaurant, Cucina which offers sophisticated dishes for parents and a delicious kid’s menu for the young ones.
