G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh Launches a New “Pet Package”

Teary goodbyes at the kennels are set to be a thing of the past as ‘man’s best friend’ will now be able to enjoy a break in Scotland’s historic capital at G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh. Quorvus Collection’s G&V is delighted to launch its new pet package, welcoming dogs into select rooms and suites at the stylish, design hotel.

At G&V, owners can relax in the knowledge that their dogs will be looked after as well as they are. Housekeeping services included in the package ensure a dog’s every need will be catered for.

Bringing the dog does not mean bringing all their kit along too. Owners can leave the clutter at home with a dog bowl, bed and snacks included in the stay. There is even a toy given to every dog who stays at G&V and, regardless of whether they would rather cuddle it or chew it, there is no doubt a stay at the G&V is a treat for any hound.

For those on four legs, G&V is well located between Princes Street Gardens and The Meadows, two excellent spots for running around and making friends.

For those on two legs, G&V is the perfect base to explore this historic city. The ancient Royal Mile, Old Town and Edinburgh Castle are moments away while the splendid Georgian New Town is within easy walking distance.

While the dog enjoys a Selection of Harry’s Treats (handmade, healthy dog treats) their owners can enjoy exceptional dining at the award-winning, newly refurbished, Italian restaurant Cucina which serves a sophisticated, metropolitan take on authentic Italian cuisine, or, a cocktail at G&V’s vibrant new bar, Epicurean.

Nightly rates at G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh start from £209 per night inclusive of breakfast. The pet package is £50 per pet per stay includes: housekeeping services, dog bed, dog bowl, treats and a soft toy. G&V create a boutique installation featuring the work of Scottish designers

Love Design: G&V Collaborates with Local Heroes to create a boutique installation featuring the work of Scottish designers

This February, G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh hosts Love Design, a boutique installation featuring the work of five Scottish designers. These specially created designs are presented in anticipation of Valentine’s Day and will be on show from 7th to 28th February. Each design has been conceived of as a perfect gift and will be available for purchase at the hotel and online.

Curated by Local Heroes Director Stacey Hunter, the installation features special pieces from: Karen Mabon (pure silk pocket square); Moira Warren of Patience Jewellery (exquisite diamond and lemon quartz earrings); Euan McWhirter (stacked gemstone bracelets); Niki Fulton (Fife linen union tie) and Emma McDowall (pastel concrete coin dish and vase).

The gifts eschew traditional Valentine’s colours and motifs to reflect modern elegance in a subtle and classic palette. They are the ideal present for an erudite loved one who appreciates design and beauty.

Speaking of the opening of the installation, curator Stacey Hunter said: “The collection reveals the exciting diversity of stylistic approaches and materials being employed by Scotland’s designers, from diamonds and concrete to linen and silk, which are coming together in pleasingly different and inventive ways. They collectively represent Scottish design that takes inspiration from around the world and applies a mix of traditional techniques and new innovations to create enduring design products.”

Martin Scott, the General Manager of G&V, the Royal Mile’s only five-star hotel said: “Love Design is a unique showcase of Scottish style and creativity. The display follows the full refurbishment of our interiors by local artists and designers and perfectly illustrates G&V’s passion for design and our continuing support of Scotland’s creative talent. Situated in our newly redesigned space, we want to welcome Edinburgh locals, visitors and guests to engage with the very best of Scottish Design in this inimitable setting.”

Love Design Product Descriptions

Niki Fulton’s Miami Signal Tie is designed to bring energy and movement to the seaside classic stripe with a limited edition Miami inspired colour palette. Printing on 100% Fife linen union gives the tie a contemporary twist – a popular material during the 1940s Swing era. Designed, printed and stitched in Edinburgh.

Karen Mabon’s pure silk pocket square is beautifully illustrated with iconic imagery from old Hollywood. Gentlemen can fold into a jacket pocket to make a dashing sartorial statement while ladies can wear around the neck as a gavroche in the Parisian style.

Emma McDowall’s pastel concrete coin dish and vase reflects the designer’s interest in colour and material play. Each of these elegant, modern pieces is completely unique in surface pattern, palette and textural quality.

Euan McWhirter’s stack of bracelets contrast smooth gemstones, beads of Lemon Jade, Pink Coral and Amazonite, with crystalline Swarovski shapes cleverly interwoven into regimented rows. A sparkling trio, they have a playful sensibility and can be worn in combination as well as on their own.

Innovative diamond and lemon quartz drop earrings by Moira Warren of Patience Jewellery are designed to convert from stud to elegant drop. In 18ct yellow gold with 0.18cts of diamonds and 40.75cts of beautiful lemon quartz, these wonderfully special earrings are also available in a matching cocktail ring and pendant.

Elemental

The installation incorporates solid marble elements with rough and smooth polished faces of white Carrara, grey Bardiglio, pale yellow Giallo complemented by Scottish marble from Torrin and Iona bearing delicate moss green veins.

Curator Stacey Hunter worked with Edinburgh sculptor Alasdair Thomson who specialises in the carving of marble. Together they selected pieces from his workshop with Alasdair modifying each piece for Love Design.

“We wanted to reference Edinburgh’s self-given title ‘Athens of the North’ in a playful way by incorporating pieces that looked a little like fragments of architectural ruins” says Stacey.

Love Design is on show at G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh from February 7th and visitors can pick up a booklet with product pricelist and special offers from G&V including the chance to win some of the pieces from the show.

The G+V Royal Mile Edinburgh partners with Plan Bee Ltd

The G&V Royal Mile Hotel in Edinburgh has partnered with Plan Bee Ltd, one of the UK’s leading sustainability businesses and sets up three beehives on the roof of the only 5-star hotel on the historic Edinburgh street.

As well as joining an exclusive club of world leading brands who already house Plan Bee hives, the hotel will also receive dozens of jars of bespoke branded honey each year as part of the partnership.

Martin Scott, General Manager of G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to be the first hotel in Edinburgh to have our own bee hives. At Quorvus Collection we are committed to our values of Care, Create and Cultivate; I see no better way to give back to nature than with our own hives. The abundance of parks and flora around Edinburgh will create a perfect environment for the bees and the best part is that the honey produced will be served to our residents every morning. We cannot wait to welcome our ‘G&V Bees’”

Executive Chef, Mattia Camorani, will use the award-winning honey in a variety of prestige dishes in the hotel’s Cucina restaurant. Hailing from Imola near Bologna, Mattia will innovate with the classic Italian dishes on his menu using the exclusive hotel honey.

Mattia is looking forward to utilising the G&V’s own bespoke honey in some of his signature dishes.

The environment is an increasingly important area of Scotland’s tourism offering with around84% of UK visitors saying that sustainability is very or quite important to them when making holiday choices (Scottish Tourism Alliance 2013).

Manuela Calchini, Regional Director at VisitScotland, said:

“Plan Bee plays an important role in supporting tourism businesses to become more environmentally friendly, ensuring we continue to make Scotland a more sustainable destination. They are already working with a number of hospitality chains throughout the UK as more and more businesses across the industry recognise the importance of attracting ethically-minded Millennial guests”.
