Boat trips at Crinan on MV Sgarbh

Experience wonderful boat trips at Crinan on the MV Sgarbh on some of the finest cruising waters in the world, never mind just the west coast of Scotland.

MV SgarbhThe Sgarbh is a fully restored classic motor boat moored at Crinan right outside the hotel which overlooks the Crinan Canal, the gateway to the Atlantic and the islands.

The Sgarbh (gaelic for cormorant, the sea bird) was built in 1947 on the river Clyde in Glasgow as a herring fishing boat. She retired from fishing in 1953 and then was beautifully fitted out below for cruising.

She is built of teak, fully varnished and completely original, the last of her type. Weighing over 20 tons and at 40 foot long she is solid and safe.

Boat trips and more extensive charters can be tailored to suit your preferences with personalised itineraries. The boat is coded for up to 12 passengers during the day and 4 passengers for overnight charters. Fresh seafood and other local produce can be prepared by the hotel and served during your cruise.

The Gleneagles Hotel announces multi-million pound investment programme

Plans blend contemporary feel with Scottish heritage at iconic hotel

Thursday 14 April 2016

The Gleneagles Hotel is thrilled to announce an extensive refurbishment programme that will see improvements and upgrades made throughout the property.

The multi-million pound refurbishment initiative represents a substantial investment from new owner, Ennismore, to make the most of the rich heritage, beautiful architecture and stunning setting for which Gleneagles is renowned.

“The Gleneagles Hotel is an incredible property and beloved brand,” said Ennismore founder and CEO, Sharan Pasricha. “It is known the world over for its golf, but with 850 acres of beautiful Scottish countryside, there is the potential to do so much more with the hotel.

“We really want to showcase the unrivalled range of facilities – the glorious playground of country pursuits and activities – we offer on the estate.

“We’re approaching the refurbishment with bold and creative decisions while respecting the hotel’s history and building on its remarkable heritage.

“It’s an organic progression – evolution, not revolution – and will ensure the iconic Gleneagles brand remains synonymous with luxury, and the hotel maintains its position among the leading hotels of the world.”

The hotel is particularly excited to be working with some of the country’s most celebrated designers – including David Collins Studio, Timorous Beasties, Macaulay Sinclair and Goddard Littlefair – to create designs and spaces that reflect Gleneagles’ distinctly Scottish identity, but with a contemporary feel.

The bedrooms will be enhanced with beautiful detailing, fabrics and craftsmanship to create a warm country estate feel.  Spaces where guests can mingle, relax and better enjoy the views of the Perthshire countryside will be created throughout the public areas of the hotel, including the introduction of a new bar in the Dormy Clubhouse and the stunning refurbishment of the hotel’s main bar. Designs for these public spaces will pay homage to the hotel’s heritage and create a welcoming and luxurious environment that feels more akin to a home or private club than a hotel.

Gleneagles’ top priority will continue to be providing an outstanding experience for guests. Plans are in place to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and the hotel will remain open throughout the refurbishment.

Sharan Pasricha added: “When Gleneagles first opened its doors in 1924, it was dubbed as the ‘Palace in the Glens’ and our aim is to surpass these glory days.  We look forward to introducing our guests to the new spaces and continuing to provide them with a five-star experience in a setting that is effortlessly stylish and luxurious.”
