Inver Lodge Hotel
Location - Lochinver
Lochinver is a small fishing village on the rugged coastline of Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands. It enjoys a sheltered position at the head of Loch Inver, amidst the spectacular scenery of Sutherland’s wild dramatic countryside, of high cliffs, waterfalls and weirdly shaped hills. |
The district is known as Assynt. Centred around Lochinver it is a vast area of contrasts. The Assynt Hills are reported to be the oldest in Britain and contain some of the great mountains of the north such as Suilven, Canisp, Quinag and Ben More Assynt.
It is on the shores of Loch Assynt that the ruins of Ardveck Castle stands, where Montrose was held prisoner before his execution in 1650.
In a region notable for its underground streams and caverns, the Rein stone caves of Alt-nan-uamh are famed for the excavations of the bones of the European Brown Bear and the Lynx, and it is believed that there was an occupation by man and Arctic animals in this area more than 11,000 years ago. |
Amidst the dramatic coastline of Sutherland are the clear white sandy beaches at Achmelvich, Clachtoll and Clashnessie - a firm favourite with our guests.
