Golf
Turnberry offers its guests
the opportunity to play 2 x 18 hole golf courses. The Ailsa course has hosted
The Open Championship on no fewer than three occasions (77, 86 & 94) whilst
the newer Kintyre course has already been selected as an Open Championship final
qualifying course for Royal Troon in 2004.
The
resort also features The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy, the world's first
ever specialist links golf academy. The Academy provides a wide range of teaching
and practice facilities for every level of player.
In
2002, the resort opened the new 9 hole Arran Academy course. This fantastic practice
and teaching course offers guests an insight into all the challenges of Turnberry's
great links including, spectacular scenery, cavernous bunkers and devilish rough.
Ayrshire
offers some of Scotland's finest golf courses, these include Royal Troon and Old
Prestwick (host to the first ever Open Championship). Turnberry makes the ideal
base for visitors to enjoy these world-class golf courses.
Leisure
Activities
Turnberry's
award winning Spa features a stunning 20 metre pool with spectacular views out
towards the Ailsa Craig and the Isle of Arran.
The
Spa also features a fitness studio, range of heat experiences including saunas
and steam rooms, relaxation areas and an extensive range of ESPA treatments including
massage, facials, Hot Stone Therapies and aromatherapy.
The
resort offers two outdoor tennis courts and a challenging pitch & putt course.
In
2001 the resort opened The Outdoor Activity Centre, which allows guests to enjoy
a wide range of pursuits on site including 4x4 off road driving, quad biking,
target rifle shooting, archery, falconry, trout fishing, clay pigeon shooting,
horse riding (including beach treks) and land yachting. The Outdoor Activity Centre
is able to organise a wide range of off site activities including river fishing,
hillwalking and game shooting.
Sight Seeing / Attractions
Located
just 5 miles from Turnberry is Culzean Castle. The Castle dates back to the 1500
and offers visitors the opportunity to explore the magnificent castle, the swamp
pond, the walled gardens, deer park and enjoy a great children's play area.
Turnberry
is situated in the heart of Burns Country and just a short drive from the resort,
guests are able to visit The Burns Heritage Centre, Rabbie Burn's Cottage, The
Monument and The Auld Kirk.
The
Isle of Arran can be reached via a short ferry journey from Ayr and offers guests
the opportunity to explore a delightful distillery.
Shopping
Located at the resort,
The Shop at Turnberry provides a wide range of clothing including leading brands
Polo Ralph Lauren, Barbour and Peter Scott Cashmere. Guests will also find travel
essentials, souvenirs and magazines at this shop.
The
Pro Shop at Turnberry offers guests the opportunity to purchase Turnberry branded,
quality sporting apparel. A range of gift ideas and souvenirs can also be bought
from this shop.
The
Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy offers golf equipment for sale including
Callaway, Hogan and Titliest.
Located
just 20 minutes away from Turnberry is Ayr. Here guests are able to shop in a
selection of high street shops.
Dining
The Turnberry Restaurant
combines the very finest Scottish ingredients with exceptional service to provide
the ultimate fine dining experience.
The
Terrace Brasserie located just above The Spa provides guests with a more informal
dining option. Using ingredients inspired by the Mediterranean, the brasserie
offers dishes such as risotto, pasta and salad.
The
Tappie Torrie Grill, located at the Clubhouse offers hearty all day dining in
a relaxed setting. Whilst enjoying spectacular views over Turnberry's famous golf
courses, this restaurant offers simple dishes such as Haddock & Chips, Beef
Burger and Club Sandwich.
Transport
Turnberry
is loacted just 55 minutes from Glasgow International Airport and 30 minutes from
Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
The
nearest rail station is just a 10 minute drive from the hotel in Girvan.
The
resort is able to provide transfers from airports and train stations in chauffeur
driven people carriers and cars. Transfer charges are available from Reservations.

guest rooms at Turnberry are equipped to provide internet access. A business centre
is located on the ground floor for guests who need access to print facilities,
telephone and a PC.
Translation,
printing, binding, photocopying and secretarial services are all available on

How far in advance to I need to book a Spa treatment?
Answer
- The Spa is very busy with appointments, especially on Fridays and Saturdays
so we would always recommend that you should book your treatments as far in advance
as possible to ensure that there is availability. Treatments can be booked by

What are the opening hours for the Spa?

- The Spa opens at 07.30 and closes at 21.30.

What is the latest time that I am able to book a treatment?

- The last available appointment time is 20.00

Can I wear my robe down from my room?
Answer
- In each room you will find a luxury Turnberry robe and slippers for each guest
that we are delighted for you to use when walking down to the Spa. Complimentary
towels and toiletries are provided for your use in the Spa.

What products do you use in the Spa?

How many full time therapists work at the Spa?

- The Spa currently employs 8 full time therapists and has 12 treatment rooms

How deep is the swimming pool?
Answer
- The swimming pool is 1.4m deep and 20m long.

What do I wear for treatments?
Answer
- We suggest that both men and women wear briefs throughout their treatments.

Can I use the swimming pool after my treatment?
Answer
- Your therapist will be able to advise you whether or not to use the swimming
pool after your treatment. For a number of the treatments we would recommend that
you do not for example, aromatherapy treatments include the use of oils and these
are washed off in the pool therefore reducing their effectiveness.

Where do I check in for my round?
Answer
- You are able to check in for your round on any of the three golf courses at
the Golf Professional shop, located in the Clubhouse. Upon check in you will be
issued with a score card, course guide and a receipt which you must show to the
Starter.
2.
Is there somewhere that I am able to hit some balls to warm up?
Answer
- If you purchase a green fee at Turnberry you are automatically entitled to a
basket of 26 balls at the Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy. Each basket of
balls thereafter costs just £2.50. The Academy consists of 16 covered practice
bays that you are able to hit balls from.
3.
Can I wear spikes in the bar?
Answer
- Yes, the Clubhouse has a spike proof carpet fitted throughout so that guests
are able to walk around freely with their spikes on.
4.
Is there a dress code in the clubhouse?
Answer
- No, although golfers are not permitted to wear jeans on the course or collarless
shirts on the course.
5.
How long does it take to play a round of golf on either of the courses?
Answer
- All rounds should be played in a maximum of 4hours and 10 minutes however it
is usual for a round of golf to take approximately 3 ½ hours.
6.
Do you need a handicap certificate to play the golf courses?
Answer
- No, Turnberry is an open venue that is open to all. However, the standard of
play is high on both the Ailsa and Kintyre Courses and course rangers regularly
check that the speed of play is being maintained.
7.
Is there anywhere that I am able to buy souvenirs?
Answer
- Yes, the Golf Professional Shop, located within the Clubhouse offers a large
selection of golf apparel, equipment and souvenirs for you to buy. It is also
possible for you to view a range of most popular gifts on our website and send
your request via the internet from our gifts at Turnberry page and you will be
contacted by a member of staff.
