Castleton House Hotel

Activities

The Angus Glens hold a special magic that entices and captures the hearts of all our visitors. For the golfer Carnoustie country offers a true golfing challenge ranging from top class courses to local favourites. (see golf section).

For those guests wishing to relax and enjoy the local scenery, the pretty village of Glamis is just 3 miles from the hotel but there is whole days worth to see and do.

Glamis Castle is only 3 miles from the hotel and well worth a visit. As the childhood home of the Queen Mother, it displays many interesting personal photographs and ephemera of the Royal Family.

Tours are conducted regularly throughout the day and visitors will be touched by the lack of barrier rope and freedom to closely appreciate everything the castle offers.

The grounds are equally impressive and well worth a wander about. Many large events are held at the Castle annually.

Kirriemuir, the home of J M Barrie - author of the great book "Peter Pan" - can be found in Brechin Road, and is maintained by the National Trust for Scotland. There is also the award winning gateway to the glens museum.

On the banks of the silvery River Tay, in the very heart of Scotland, you'll find the fair city of Perth and the famous Scone Palace, the original crowning site of the Kings of Scotland.

Perth, is well worth a visit as is Blair Castle and its well known neighbour, The House of Bruar. Add a trip to Scone Palace or the nearby racecourse, or possibly the famous Scottish Game Fair and another two days are easily filled.

Walking in the beautiful Angus glens is very special experience, there is also the long crescent beach of Lunan bay to enjoy and the cliff walk at Montrose.

Thanks to friendly local staff some of the best information can be gleaned from the hotel staff or our local walking organisation.

Falconry

Many guests have enjoyed the experience of falconry which can be practiced here in the hotel grounds, Elite Falconry have a wonderful collection of majestic hunting birds including Hawks, Falcons and Eagles. Enjoy a days hunting out on nearby hills and wonder at the power and skill of these fantastic creatures.

Fishing , Shooting & Stalking

The area around the hotel is amongst the finest for these field sports giving challenge and success without the bleak remoteness. We can put you in touch with local agents connected with all the local estates. We are fortunate to have good relations with local landowners one in particular who is happy for Castleton guests to enjoy his beat for some very competitively priced fishing.
