Boath
House
“A bin of wine, A spice of wit, A house with lawns enclosing it,
A living river by the door, A nightingale in the sycamore”. |
| ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON 1850-1894 |

| Boath House is a Georgian mansion set in 20 acres of gardens near Nairn, one of Scotland's golfing hotspots.
Described by the Scottish Field in the 1950's as the most beautiful Regency House in Scotland, Boath House's philosophy includes organic fruit and vegetables from their own kitchen gardens, honey from their own bees and an eclectic wine list. |
Built circa 1825 for the Dunbar Family by Archibald Simpson of Aberdeen, considered to be an architectural genius of his time, Boath House was on Historic Scotland's 'endangered list' in the early 90s, until Don and Wendy Matheson found it, fell in love with it, and set about restoring this Grade A listed Georgian Mansion to its original splendour.

After meticulous refurbishment, Don, Wendy and their three children delight in sharing their beautiful home with discerning guests from around the world. With its twenty acres of gardens and parkland land, including a beautiful lake and traditional, tranquil walled garden this is a perfect setting from which to explore the Grampian Highlands and Aberdeenshire.
Chef, Charlie Lockley, together with owner Wendy, have established an excellent reputation for cuisine using the best of local produce including kitchen herbs, salad leaves, fruit and vegetables from their own organic garden.
The restaurant has been awarded 4 AA Rosettes for food and has been voted one of the top 10 restaurants in Scotland. Wendy and Don's passion for art of all kinds has resulted in the public areas of the Boath House being decorated with carefully chosen work from around 30 highly talented artists.
The artists all live and work in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, and much of their work has been inspired by the dramatic scenery and landscapes surrounding them. The hotel offers 8 bedrooms - each of the bedrooms has been painstakingly refurbished and individually decorated to reflect the opulent lifestyle of the original occupants.
The first floor rooms are decorated with antique furniture and provides undisturbed view of the grounds. Guests can also stay in Mickle cottage, a secluded and romantic cottage hideaway in the hotels grounds, decorated in rich warm colours. New for July 2007 the Matheson’s have converted and refurbished two new rooms in the orangery with courtyard views and a private entrance.

The rooms are finished in deep walnut furnishings and sultry hues and the bathrooms fixtures and fittings are modern, clean and contemporary in style using Philippe Starck, stone ceramics by Villeroy and Boch and complimented with natural stone tiling. |
The Spa has two treatment rooms which aim to provide an all round relaxing and de-stressing experience. Spa guests can experience Aveda treatments – holistic approaches to beauty and wellbeing based on Indian Ayurvedic principles which use natural plant and flower extract treatments.
Boath House Hotel & Spa is the only location in the north of Scotland to offer these treatments. |
