Two Cities Itinerary

Edinburgh | Glasgow

The turn of the century is a perfect time to experience the vibrance and energy of two of Scotland's great cities - Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Glasgow is one of Europe's most exciting cultural capitals and reigns supreme as the UK's City of Architecture and Design in 1999.

Showcasing the architectural masterpieces of Macintosh and Greek Thompson Glasgow also hosts new architectural projects including the exciting Lighthouse project designed to reflect the design achievements of 20th Century Britain.

The perfect example of a Victorian City, Glasgow is rich architectural facades and buildings portraying the bygone days of the tobacco lords, the legendary shipbuilding years and the elegant city houses of the rich and famous.

Today the city is studded with galleries, art centres, theatres, brasseries and restaurants that reflect the vibrant culture of Glasgow's youthful population.

This is Scotland's style capital - offering shopping experiences such as Princes Square, Buchanan Street and the Italian Centre in the Merchant city where visitors will have the opportunity to buy international designer goods, crafts and Scottish jewellery. or simply enjoy a coffee, a pastry and the bustle of the city life.

Visitors may choose to experience Scotland's history first hand by visiting Glasgow Cathedral with its 13th Century interiors, the unique Necropolis and its monuments or the nearby Museum of Religion.

Others might enjoy a leisurely stroll along the banks of the River Kelvin. Here they'll find the towering architecture of Glasgow University, Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum with its fine collections of Scottish and European paintings and world class collections of textiles and ethnology.

Nearby are the fascinating exhibits of Glasgow's Transport Museum and the tranquil haven of the Botanical Gardens.

Glasgow's nightlife rivals that of London and other European Capitals. The city's Royal Concert Hall is home to Scotland's Opera and Theatre companies. Together with the nearby Theatre Royal and the recently opened Clyde Auditorium , designed by Sir Norman Foster, it provides a wide spectrum of concerts and performances at international level.
