About Scotland
Heritage
"Breathes
there the man with soul so dead, who never to himself hath said, this is my own
my native land"
Sir
Walter Scott's emotive words of pride and patriotism strike chords in men and
women of every nationality, but perhaps have special resonance here in one of
the world's oldest nations, Scotland.
For
the Scots precocious sense of national identity, predating that of other European
countries by many centuries, was forged during her Wars of Independence of the
13th and 14th centuries. A disparate people made up of French, Flemish, English,
Lowland Scots and Gaels united to create a unique idea of a nation based on a
sense of community rather than narrow ethnicity.
We
believe that in the Scotland of the 21st century, the ideals are still there;
the passion for our cultural legacy, the openness to people from other lands,
and the desire to engage with the world. Scotland's heritage is special and fascinating,
visit us and share the passion. |
