Ivor Tiefenbrun
"To thrill customers
who want the most out of life from music, information and entertainment systems
that benefit from quality sound by working together to supply them what they want
when they want it." Founded
in 1972 by Ivor Tiefenbrun, Linn Products Limited is an independent precision-engineering
company based in Scotland specialising in top performance sound reproduction. |
The company grew out of Ivor's belief that he could vastly improve the sound quality
of his own hi-fi system.
Linn's
first product was the revolutionary Linn Sondek LP12 transcription turntable.
Linn's policy of continuous improvement means that, 25 years later it is still
the turntable by which all others are judged. In 1992 Ivor Tiefenbrun was awarded the MBE by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
upon the recommendation of the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for his and
Linn's engineering achievements and outstanding service to the electronics industry.

This
is Ivor's 5 minute Scotland:
A
favourite outdoor location
The
Covenanter's Memorial on the Eaglesham Moor.
A
favourite viewpoint or landscape
Above
Applecross, the view over Skye and the Western Isles from the summit of the Old
Sheep Road. Simply one of he most beautiful spots in Scotland.
A
favourite journey
The
coastal drive down the far northwest coast of Scotland on one of those special
days when you have blue skies and unlimited visibility across some of the most
beautiful land, island, loch and sea prospects on earth.
A
favourite historical place
Stirling
old town and the Castle because it is the very heart of Scotland and its history.
A
favourite country walk
Countryside
around Comrie, Perthshire. Comrie to me is Scotland's Shangri-la - a working village
nestling at the junction of 3 rivers in the most beautiful highland countryside.
A
favourite city walk
Through
Edinburgh, preferably late at night during the middle of a dry, cold winter spell
when the streets are empty and everything from the Castle, the historic Old Town
and the classical New Town can be seen and heard with startling clarity.
A
favourite hotel
Crinan
Hotel at the western end of the Crinan Canal, a magical place that combines so
much of Scotland's culture and history, its engineering, shipbuilding and seagoing
traditions - in a unique natural landscape close to the ancient standing stones
and tombs of the Kilmartin valley, the ancient capital of Dunad and the wonderful
sea loch, raised marshes and unique wildlife.
A
favourite way to spend a day in Scotland
Messing
about in Tobermoray on a boat and singing and dancing while under the influence
at the Mishnish, one of Scotland's great watering holes, in a beautiful "Carribean"
setting. One of Scotland's great experiences is sailing into Tobermoray after
a week long cruise down the western isles. It is a bit like sailing into Manhatten
on the QEII and seeing all the skyscrapers but after Stornoway, Skalpy Harris
and Barra, Tobermoray is more impressive.
A
favourite food, menu or recipe
Cullen
Skink followed by Venison Stew at the Deil's Cauldron Restaurant in Comrie.
A favourite whisky
Smiths 15 year old, or
anything bottled by Gordon MacPhail of Elgin.
A
favourite museum or gallery
Cyril
Gerber Fine Arts in Glasgow.
A
favourite place for shopping
Princes
Square in Glasgow.
A
fond memory of Scotland
Racing
a sailing boat or simply passage making off the West Coast on, during or after
West Highland Week.
